Biden discusses AI risks with Google and Microsoft executives

The White House emphasized that the heads of digital giants are legally responsible for the security of their artificial intelligence products.

US President Joe Biden discussed the risks associated with artificial intelligence with the leaders of leading companies in this field, including Google and Microsoft. On Thursday, May 4, Reuters reported.

The two-hour meeting was attended by Google’s Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, as well as US Vice President Kamala Harris and administration officials, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Commerce Secretary Gene Raimondo and others.

The White House emphasized that AI technology could improve lives, but could lead to problems with security, privacy and civil rights.

According to Biden administration officials, digital giant executives are legally responsible for the security of their AI products and the administration is open to pushing new rules and supporting new AI legislation.

Biden also announced a $140 million investment from the National Science Foundation to launch seven new AI research institutes.

Biden previously discussed the dangers of artificial intelligence at a meeting of the President’s Council on Science and Technology (PCAST).
