A farmer from the Kharkov region cultivates “mine” fields on a radio-controlled armored tractor.
After Russian troops were withdrawn from parts of Ukraine in a Ukrainian counter-offensive last year, most of the fields in those regions were mined. Today it became dangerous for farmers to sow grain for the next harvest, but Ukrainians also showed their resourcefulness here. How today’s Russian tanks helped a resourceful farmer, read in the story Correspondent.net.
“Gifts of War”
Farmer Alexander Krivtsun lives in the village of Grakovo, Kharkiv region. All two thousand hectares of its fields are in the combat zone – not far from occupied Balakleya. The farmer says that they are literally covered with mines and shells: only in the first area surveyed, the sappers found about 300 of them. But even such “gifts of war,” according to Alexander, are no reason to cancel the sowing season.
The farmer decided that he could no longer wait for help from the official sappers to clear his field and decided to plow his “minefields” remotely – in an armored unmanned tractor.
Great idea
In particular, Alexander developed a remote-controlled tractor that could withstand explosions. To protect the body of his old tractor, the farmer used the armor of damaged Russian tanks. He also bought a system that allows one of his team members to control the tractor remotely – from the excavator bucket on top.
“We started doing this only because the time for sowing, and we can’t do anything, because the rescue services are very busy, they help us a lot, they work day and night. They have removed the mines that we have. found, thanks to them huge,” the farmer told reporters.
Alexander also said that for a dangerous sowing season, he specially bought an old tractor. Before the war, he had a large farm and a whole fleet of cars. Some of the vehicles were burned during the occupation, and the invaders stole new equipment.
“An old tractor costs $5,000, and an imported tractor of $200-250,000 is very expensive. On the other hand, the equipment on it costs about a million. I didn’t even believe that he would be able to work from a distance like that. ,” said the farmer.
The unique tractor has already passed the “baptism of fire”.
“They were blown up by an anti-tank mine. The protection was blown up. The tractor is intact. Everyone is alive and unharmed. The equipment has been restored and repaired,” added the farmer.
State Emergency Service Assistance
Sergei Dudak, head of the mine clearance unit of the State Emergency Service, which oversees the operation of the unique tractor, said that the amount of work the farmer does to clear the fields is “enormous.” The rescuer also praised the invention for its ability to clean large areas without endangering lives.
“We don’t have time to clean the fields. The workload is huge,” said Dudak.
“It will take years to manually clear this particular field and make sure there are no mines,” he added.
It should be noted that last week, at a government meeting, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said that approximately 30% of the territory of Ukraine was inherited by the Russians and that the Cabinet of Ministers focused its efforts on the rapid -demining of agricultural land.
