On Thursday, May 4, photos began to expand on social networks, which depict the production process of this Ukrainian artillery system.
The photo showed a wheeled chassis with an armored cab for the driver and crew, reminiscent of the Ukrainian car “Varta”. Also, a fire control system unit was already installed on the chassis. However, the machine still lacks a cannon and other mechanisms that ensure its operation when firing. It is not yet known which chassis is used in the serial production of new Ukrainian self-propelled howitzers.
“Bogdana” is the first self-propelled howitzer of the so-called “NATO” caliber, developed by specialists of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex. The development of the first in Ukraine wheeled 155 mm artillery system 2S22 “Bogdan” began in 2016. The howitzer was mounted on a KrAZ-63221 chassis with an armored cab. According to the developer, the firing range of a conventional projectile is up to 40 km.
At the end of January 2022, before the Russian full-scale invasion, it was reported that the Bogdan had successfully passed preliminary fire tests, firing 450 rounds. In the future, the artillery installation was used to defeat the positions of Russian invaders in Ukraine.
It was planned that the “Bogdan” would be equipped with a full digital fire control system and automatic charging.
“Military” recalls that Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said in January: Ukraine has financed the mass production of the domestic Bogdan 155-mm artillery mount.
According to the minister, work began in the spring of 2022.
Then Reznikov stressed that the domestic Bogdan artillery mount had successfully passed tests on the battlefield.
Subsequently, this wheeled self-propelled guns worked on different sectors of the front of the Russian-Ukrainian war, inflicting fire strikes on the invaders.
The minister also published a photo of a new chassis for serial 155-mm Ukrainian-made self-propelled guns.
In February, the head of the defense department announced that the first deliveries of serial Ukrainian Bogdan self-propelled artillery mounts are expected in the coming months.
“We have a very important Ukrainian Bogdan. I have already signed the first contracts and they [виробники] they are already promising to make the first deliveries in the coming months,” Reznikov said about the order for new Ukrainian artillery systems.
