The Washington Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in its daily bulletin analyzes in detail what the Kremlin is presenting as an attack by two Ukrainian drones, and concludes quite confidently that it was staged. He lists several reasons.

- Russian authorities have been consistently beefing up air defenses around Moscow in recent months, so it’s unlikely that two drones could break through the many layers of air defenses;
- If the attack had not been staged, it would have come as a surprise to the Russian authorities, and at first they would have offered contradictory explanations. This is exactly what happened after military failures, such as in Balakliya and Kherson, ISW analysts write;
- Instead, Moscow immediately submitted a detailed report, and such a quick, coordinated and coordinated reaction suggests that “the attack was prepared from within in such a way that the intended political consequences prevailed embarrassment.”
- By staging an attack on the Kremlin, the authorities tried to show the Russian population that the war is close and everyone should participate in it. The re-enactment could also be the reason for canceling or severely curtailing celebrations on Victory Day on May 9, which will further exacerbate the feeling among Russians that life is still impossible.
The ISW suggests that other Russian false-flag operations may follow.
Recall that on the night of May 3, the Kremlin was allegedly attacked by drones. The press service of the President of the Russian Federation announced two downed drones.
Judging by the footage from the scene, one of the devices exploded directly above the dome of the Senate Palace (in the same video, two people can be seen lifting the dome at the time of the collision – apparently, they were not injured; who is still unknown).
The Kremlin called the drone attack “an assassination attempt on the Russian president,” adding that Putin was in another residence at the time of the attack.
Ukraine denies any involvement in the incident.
