The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a prosecutor in Kharkiv who demanded money from victims for a “proper” investigation of crimes. This was announced by the SBU press center on its Telegram channel on Wednesday, May 3.
“As a result of comprehensive measures, the prosecutor of one of the district prosecutor’s offices in Kharkiv was detained. He set up a scheme for taking bribes for “activating” the investigation of criminals offense. SBU employees documented that the officer demanded $35,000 from the victim in the case of fraudulent activities with commercial real estate. For the prosecutor the person promised to give this amount a “push” to investigate related proceedings, as well as to seize the property and conduct a series of tests,” the report said.
The SBU added that the officer involved his friend as an intermediary in illegal activities.
Employees of the SBU and the State Bureau of Investigation detained the prosecutor and his “assistant” in Kharkov “hot”, during the transfer of the entire amount of the bribe.
The defendants in the case were notified of a suspicion under the article Acceptance of an offer, promise or acceptance of an illegal benefit by an official (part 4 of article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Currently, the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided and investigative actions are ongoing.
As previously reported, in the Vinnitsa region, a company commander was arrested for taking bribes.
In addition, a pseudo-military man was detained in Odessa, demanding 9,000 dollars from the mother of a conscript.
