The Russian authorities are preparing, if not expecting, the Ukrainian victories and plan to mitigate the demoralization in the Russian society.

The Kremlin has prepared new instructions for the Russian media on how to cover the future Ukrainian counter-offensive. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for Tuesday, May 2.

It is noted that if such temniks are true, it indicates the creation by the authorities of the Russian Federation of information conditions both for the effective defense of the Russian Federation and for the mitigation of shocks in the Russian information space from the successes of Ukrainian troops on the front lines.

On the eve of receiving such instructions, the Russian opposition publication Meduza announced the previous day. State media were reportedly ordered to “not lower expectations about the announced Ukrainian counter-offensive” or say that Ukraine is not ready for a counter-offensive, treating the possibility of an offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine as given.

It is noted that the Russian press was ordered to focus on the fact that the entire West is helping Ukraine.

Meduga reported that sources close to the administration of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said the purpose of the occupation was to allow the Kremlin to declare military victory if the Ukrainian counteroffensive failed and to justify a successful counter-offensive by arguing that Russia’s losses were understandable because “the entire West concentrated great efforts on the front.”

“The possible document says that the Kremlin is preparing, if not expecting, Ukrainian successes and plans to mitigate demoralization in the Russian information space,” ISW experts said.

Analysts added that this was an important Russian adaptation of earlier UAF counteroffensives in the Kherson and Kharkiv regions, which “caused dramatic disturbances and demoralization in both the Russian military and Russian information space, which the Kremlin probably seeks to mitigate.”

Earlier, CNN said that Russia is not ready for a Ukrainian counteroffensive. Analysts pointed out several factors that testify to the impossibility of the Russians to fight the Ukrainians.
