The effect of martial law and general mobilization will be extended from May 19, and probably again for 90 days, Yaroslav Zheleznyak said.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense supported the bills submitted by the President of the State on the extension of martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine. This was announced by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Telegram on Tuesday, May 2.
“The Committee on Defense Supported Decrees No. 9259 and No. 9260 On the Extension of Martial Law and General Mobilization,” Zheleznyak wrote.
According to him, 18 votes respectively were given for the corresponding decision.
“The action will be extended from May 19, 2023 and probably again for 90 days, that is, until mid-August 2023. Consideration in the Rada is imminent,” added the people’s representative.
Recall that on May 1, President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted to the Verkhovna Rada bills on the extension of martial law and mobilization in Ukraine. The head of state also proposed to continue the mobilization.
As you know, on the morning of February 24, 2022, Ukraine introduced martial law for the first time after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion. Currently, martial law in the country is in effect until May 18 inclusive.
In the future, the Verkhovna Rada repeatedly extended the period of martial law and general mobilization. The last time this happened was at a meeting on February 7th.
