Ukraine keeps the plan for the future counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the strictest confidence, but the Minister of Defense has already announced that his preparations are at the finish line.
It seems that the whole world is frozen in anticipation of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that everything needed for the counteroffensive is ready.
What it takes to be successful
Reznikov named three main factors for a successful counteroffensive:
– the presence of weapons,
– trained and trained defenders who know their plan,
– providing the offensive with all the necessary things.
“Now we enter the finish line when we can say” yes, everything is ready”, and then, by solving and understanding the situation on the battlefield, the General Staff, the commander in chief and the his team how, where and when,” said the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
“I don’t just hope, I believe in him. I am convinced that much has been done to make this (the counter-offensive) successful. If our generals do not have confidence, our General Staff: from the commander-in-chief to the commanders of the ATO OSU, the corresponding commanders of the labor types, of course, there is no point in going. Everything must be planned, thought out,” he said.
Russia not ready yet?
CNN writes that Russia shows insufficient readiness for the Ukrainian counteroffensive. The material says there is traffic on the fronts, regular artillery attacks and explosions hitting critical Russian targets in the occupied territories. Journalists point out that the large-scale trench defense networks prepared by the Russian Federation are clearly visible from space, which is not very useful “in the era of precision missiles.” CNN also noted the reshuffling of Russian military leaders, including the dismissal of Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Mikhail Mizintsev, who was in charge of logistics. “The time before Ukraine’s actions begin is shrinking. …]And Moscow’s level of internal doubt, conflict and disunity is only growing,” the article said.
Not everyone believes
The British Sunday Times published a prediction by Professor Mark Galeotti, an expert on Russia and the author of more than 20 books. He said that, despite the desire of the Ukrainian army and politicians, the offensive, most likely, will not bring significant results – however, it is becoming increasingly difficult to postpone it, including for political reasons.
British officers who have worked with the Ukrainian military report that their colleagues are determined, Galeotti said. On the other hand, according to leaked US intelligence estimates, Ukraine is unlikely to achieve more than modest territorial gains.
However, while the Ukrainians are quickly mastering 230 new and refurbished Western tanks and 1,550 armored vehicles, they still lack proper air defenses for any major offensive. Western experts are also unsure whether senior commanders will be able to adapt to the new systems as well as the soldiers who operate them.
“However, Kiev has no real choice but to launch a major offensive in the spring or summer. Its leaders are increasingly boxing themselves in,” Galeotti said.
