Russian surface ships have been spotted near wind farms and underwater power cables.
Finland and Sweden put their navies on high alert after Russian ships were spotted nearby. This was announced on Sunday, April 30, by the commander of the Swedish Navy, Eva Skoog Haslum, in an interview with the Finnish edition of Iltalehte.
He noted that Russian surface ships have been spotted near wind farms and underwater power cables.
“We are convinced that Russia has put targets on the map,” Skoog Haslum said.
When asked if there was a risk of the Russians destroying, for example, submarine power cables, he replied: “Absolutely. This is one of the ways to conduct an operation against us.”
Because Russian attacks on power grids are possible, the Swedish navy is on high alert to prevent sabotage, he said.
“We continue to strive both to demonstrate intent by being close to targets and to demonstrate our will in self-defense,” the Navy commander added.
Russian reconnaissance ships are preparing sabotage against offshore wind farms, gas pipelines and power cables in Denmark and the countries of Northern Europe.
