The allies provide Ukraine with very effective equipment, such as modern tanks, but there is a critical shortage of ammunition for it.
The Czech Republic, in cooperation with other allies, will look for ways to increase the supply of ammunition to Ukraine. This was announced on Sunday, April 30, by Czech President Petr Pavel upon his return from Ukraine, where he was working on a visit, reports Ceske Noviny.
“For a successful defense, Ukraine today needs ammunition above all else. Technology, of course, is also lacking, but a critical lack of ammunition not only limits Ukraine’s ability to defend effectively, but also limits its ability to mount a successful counteroffensive in And if they want to regain control of the occupied territories that Russia has aggressively held for more than a year, there really is no other way than a counteroffensive ,” he said.
He emphasized that together with the allies he will find ways to supply Ukraine with the necessary amount of ammunition.
He added that the necessary ammunition is often not produced in the Czech Republic, but is available in other countries.
“The stocks are often found in countries that traditionally bought Soviet equipment,” he explained.
The President also added that even the most advanced ammunition-free equipment is now just “warehouse property”.
Pavel noted that Russia maintains an advantage in the number of artillery pieces and rocket launchers, but, above all, in the amount of ammunition they fire four to five times more per day than those Ukrainians.
Germany intends to build 250,000 155-mm artillery shells for Ukraine, which is a quarter of the total amount that EU countries plan to provide for the needs of the Ukrainian army.
