From the frozen continent to the “mainland” icebreaker Noosphere delivered three expeditions at once.
The second Antarctic season of the Ukrainian research icebreaker Noosphere has ended. This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
On April 29, the ship reportedly arrived from Antarctica to the port of Cape Town in the Republic of South Africa.
From the frozen continent to the “mainland” the icebreaker transported three expeditions at once. In particular, this is the wintering detachment of the 27th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition, whose members and participants worked at the Akademik Vernadsky station for a year.
“These are scientists in the areas of geophysics, biology, meteorology, as well as a life support team,” the department said.
A seasonal detachment was also delivered, which carried out Vernadsky tasks during the Antarctic summer – these were scientific and technical specialists.
Noosfera also transported members of the Polish Antarctic expedition from the Arctowski station.
In total, the second season of Noosphere lasted four months.
Recall that on April 7 at the Academician Vernadsky station the change of expeditions was completed. In the coming year, the new team will conduct various studies, and also ensure the life of the station.
