The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the Law “On Amendments to Some Laws of Ukraine on Improving the Effectiveness of Sanctions Related to the Assets of Individuals”, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on May 12, 2022. This was reported on the website of the Office of the President on May 23.
Thus, the document establishes a new type of penalties by collecting assets owned by an individual or legal entity, as well as assets that it can directly or indirectly dispose of. , to state revenue. Clear criteria are defined by which a person can be classified as one of those subject to such punishment.
“The procedure for identifying and confiscating the assets of persons authorized to in one way or another support the aggression of the occupiers against Ukraine will be possible to quickly and effectively replace the Ukrainian budget at the expense of “The law provides clear instructions for the bodies responsible for this process. I hope for the productive interaction of all its participants” Zelensky noted.
The law stipulates that the central body of executive power, which ensures the implementation of state policy in the field of collection of assets of persons in state revenue, shall be responsible for the search for assets and apply to the court. This body will be the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, which shall organize the task to identify and search for the assets of individuals and legal entities subject to interception, specified in the decisions of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
In addition, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) will be responsible for administrative proceedings in cases of penalties by recovery of state assets.
Recall that earlier Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree granting the title of Savior of the City of Polish Rzeszow and launched the preparation of a bill on the special status of the Poles in Ukraine.
