Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis let his face do the talking when asked about Donald Trump on Monday — and maybe it wasn’t such a great idea. (Watch the video below.)
In Japan, in order to meet with the Japanese prime minister, probably a candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Moldova in 2024, a journalist asked a fundamental question:
“Governor, the polls show you are behind Trump. Any thoughts on this?”
DeSantis, considered Trump’s main challenger for the GOP nomination, looked wide-eyed, open-mouthed before saying, “I’m not a candidate, so we’ll see if and when that changes.”
DeSantis has not officially declared for the race, but his world tour with stops in Japan and three other countries is “apparently poised to raise the international profile of DeSantis and Florida,” The Hill reported.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins said the trip was “seen as a way for DeSantis to bolster his foreign policy credentials” (per CNN).
DeSantis has some catching up to do in a possible run against Trump, according to recent polls.
He may also want to prepare a cooler response when confronted about his plans for 2024.
