The Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft flew from the Russian mainland to the Kaliningrad region. He was met by two Russian Su-27 fighters based in Kaliningrad.
Near NATO airspace in the Baltic Sea, British and German Typhoon fighters intercepted two Russian fighters and a reconnaissance aircraft. This was announced on Monday, April 17, by the press service of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain.
It was noted that the Russian reconnaissance aircraft Il-20 flew from the Russian mainland to the Kaliningrad region. Two Russian Su-27 fighters based in Kaliningrad met him and flew south with him over the northwestern part of the Estonian FIR.
British and German planes escorted Russian planes in this zone and handed them over to the Swedish Air Force.
The RAF pilot noted that Russian warplanes frequently fly over the Baltic Sea, so interception is common. This is the fifth joint interception by the British and German Air Forces.
It will be recalled that in March, NATO fighters also intercepted Russian aircraft near Estonia.
Before that, two Dutch Air Force F-35 fighters intercepted a group of three Russian military aircraft in the skies over Poland.
