The launch was halted 40 seconds before liftoff, according to Space.com.
Musk subsequently said in his Telegram channel that the cause was a detected malfunction – a pressure valve froze.
Abandoning today’s flight test attempt. The team is working on the next available launch opportunity,” the SpaceX Twitter page notes.
The next opportunity to launch will not appear until 48 hours later.
The Starship was scheduled to take off today from the Starbase site in Boca Chica, Texas, but would not attempt to land. The ship was supposed to make a soft landing and splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico after a few minutes of flight.
The height of Starship is 120 m, which makes it the tallest and most powerful rocket in the world.
SpaceX plans to use Starship to land NASA Artemis 3 astronauts on the moon in 2025, as well as three private space flights, two of which are to carry passengers around the moon. Starship is also SpaceX’s planned Mars mission vehicle.
Starship is designed to be reusable, which is expected to keep costs down.
