The visit of the Foreign Minister takes place in the context of the agreements reached during the telephone conversation between the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Iraq.
Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba arrived on a visit to Iraq. This is the first visit of the head of Ukraine’s foreign policy department to this country since 2012, the Foreign Ministry reported on Monday, April 17.
It is noted that Kuleba’s visit takes place in the context of the agreements reached in a telephone conversation between President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Minister of Iraq Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani on April 10.
The Foreign Minister held talks in Baghdad with the Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Iraq, Fuad Hussein.
Ukraine and Iraq are united by a long history of friendship and mutual respect. At one time, Ukrainian servicemen helped to normalize the situation on the territory of Iraq. Currently, the Iraqi government supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion,” Kuleba said.
According to the minister, a telephone conversation between the heads of our states last week gave a significant impetus to the intensification of bilateral political dialogue: I came to Baghdad to open the doors to new opportunities on bilateral relations between Ukraine and Iraq, to … fill our relations with new practical content.
Kuleba told his colleague in Iraq about the efforts of the Ukrainian army to repel the Russian invasion and liberate the occupied territories. He paid special attention to President Zelensky’s peace formula.
The Foreign Ministers separately discussed the export of Ukrainian grain. They agreed to hold consultations in the near future at the level of a number of ministries of Ukraine and Iraq to intensify cooperation in the field of trade, education and digitalization.
The interlocutors agreed to hold political consultations with the Foreign Ministry, as well as the fifth meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. The last meeting of the commission was held in 2012.
Dmitry Kuleba invited Fuad Hussein to visit Ukraine.
Earlier, Kuleba said that the Black Sea should become a NATO sea. He criticized the West for not having a coherent approach to the Black Sea, while Russia always had one.
