The issue of bringing Russia to justice remains the focus of bilateral dialogue between Ukraine and the United States, Andrei Kostin said.
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin is in the United States on a working visit. This was announced by the Office of the Prosecutor General on Monday, April 17.
Kostin began his working visit to the United States with an interview with the Voice of America. The Prosecutor General noted that “the issue of bringing Russia to justice is the main task of the world community in the near future and remains the focus of the bilateral dialogue between Ukraine and the United States.”
It is indicated that the discussion is about consolidating efforts to document and investigate Russian crimes committed against Ukraine, and the formation of a network of comprehensive responsibility for these crimes.
“We must create a Special International Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression, which will have jurisdiction over the top military and political leadership of Russia. Russia’s aggression is a global war. And the response to the crime of aggression must also be global,” Kostin stressed.
The Prosecutor General noted the importance of fulfilling the ICC warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin for the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, as well as compensation for the damage caused by Russia at the expense of private and sovereign possessions of Russia.
During the visit, Kostin will hold a series of meetings to discuss these issues with American partners.
Earlier, an agreement was signed in The Hague at the ICC office in Kyiv. This will help the court to work more intensively and more effectively in Ukraine in investigating war crimes committed by Russia.
