The UK Ministry of Defense believes that Ukraine could take a decade to clear mines. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, more than 750 civilian casualties related to mine detonation have already been recorded (a child was injured in one in eight cases).
The most affected territories are the Kherson and Kharkiv regions: territories previously occupied by Russia, according to a British intelligence report published on Twitter on April 17.
With the onset of spring and an increase in the number of Ukrainians engaged in agricultural work, the risk of undermining civilians in mines increases.
It will probably take at least ten years to clear Ukraine of mines, the British Ministry of Defense notes.
Recall that since the de-occupation of the settlements of the Kherson region, sappers have examined 27 thousand hectares. In these territories, 55.7 thousand explosive objects were discovered and neutralized.
