The exact date of the vote has not yet been set, but the decision will be made before the alliance’s summit in Vilnius on July 11-12.
The Hungarian Parliament will ratify Sweden’s NATO accession agreement during the spring session. This was said in an interview with Mandiner by the leader of the faction of the ruling party Fidesz Mate Kocis.
“In the spring session,” he answered the question of when the Parliament plans to approve Sweden’s application for NATO membership.
The exact date of the vote has not yet been set. However, this will take place before the summit of the alliance, which will be held in Vilnius on July 11-12.
The leader of the faction confirmed that representatives from Fider, like the Hungarian government, support Sweden’s accession to NATO, but they have some doubts about the policy of this country.
“But anyway, we are not the last country to decide on the entry of Sweden, and it is not because of us that they are outside NATO for some time,” assured Kocis, remembering that Turkey expressed serious doubts about Sweden’s entry into the alliance. ..
On March 27, the Hungarian parliament approved by a majority vote the ratification of Finland’s NATO accession treaty and postponed consideration of the Swedish issue.
Recall that in May 2022, Sweden and Finland applied to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
As a member of NATO, Turkey has set several conditions that both countries must fulfill in order for Ankara to confirm their entry into the alliance. Sweden has not yet met these conditions.
On April 4, Finland officially joined NATO and became its 31st member.
