The attackers are looking for “clients” mainly people with disabilities and parents with children.
Cyber-specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with Polish law enforcement agencies, neutralized a transnational criminal group of scammers. In particular, the attackers took money from residents of front-line regions of Ukraine who planned to leave the war zone, including from Bakhmut and Vuhledar. This was reported by the SBU press center on the Telegram channel on Thursday, April 10.
The attackers “guaranteed” local residents to take them to safer regions of our state. The average cost of such services is UAH 30,000.
The main victims of fraudsters are the disabled and parents with small children. For this purpose, they used groups in social networks and popular instant messengers.
They take an advance payment of 50% of the declared amount from their customers. The money is received on the bank cards issued to the nominees.
The scammers, after receiving the funds, stopped communicating with the victims and did not make any further contact. They attracted more than one and a half million hryvnias from people in this way.
The scammers’ “clients” are also men of military age. For a “separate fee” the malefactors promised the conscripts to create forged documents for travel abroad.
As a result of a special operation in different regions of Ukraine, one of the organizers of the group was detained – a resident of the Zhytomyr region, who had direct contact with clients and offered them ” conditions” for evacuation.
In addition, two more Ukrainian citizens, organizers of a criminal group, are in one of the EU countries.
SBU employees, together with European partners, are taking comprehensive measures to detain both malefactors and extradite them to Ukraine.
As previously reported, cyber specialists of the SBU liquidated a pro-Kremlin bot farm in the Khmelnytsky region.
A network of bot farms spreading war fakes has been exposed in Ukraine
