Sabrina Singh, deputy spokeswoman for the Department of Defense, said this in Washington. According to the New York Times, the documents, in particular, contained information about the plans of the United States and NATO to support Ukraine’s military offensive against Russia in the spring.
The Pentagon and the US Department of Justice are intensively studying the possible consequences of the incident for “national security”, the speaker said. For this, an “interdepartmental working group” was created. The focus is on assessing the impact “on the national security of the United States, as well as our allies and partners.”
Secret government documents have appeared on online platforms such as Twitter, Telegram, Discord and other platforms. According to the New York Times, they should contain information about the supply of weapons, the size of the battalion and other confidential information. The document summarizes the plans for the training of twelve Ukrainian combat brigades.
These documents (some classified as top secret) paint a detailed picture of the war in Ukraine, complete with graphs and dozens of obscure military acronyms.
They talk about the losses suffered by both sides, about the military vulnerability of each of them, and, very importantly, about what their forces will be like when Ukraine decides to launch its long-awaited spring offensive.
This is the biggest leak of classified American information about the war in Ukraine since the start of a full-scale Russian invasion 14 months ago. Some documents are already six weeks old, but the implications of their publication are enormous.
Pentagon officials have already stated that the documents are real.
BBC got acquainted with two dozen documents. They include detailed reports on training and equipment being provided to Ukraine, which is raising about a dozen new brigades for a counter-offensive that could begin in the coming weeks.
