A significant part of the goods exported to Russia is on the sanctions lists, notes the Financial Times.
The British company Mykines Corporation supplied electronics to Russia for more than $1.2 billion. Most of these goods are included in the sanctions lists. It was reported by the Financial Times.
We are talking about the supply of semiconductors, servers, laptops, computer components, telecommunications network equipment and consumer electronics. Entries list brands from Huawei and H3C to Intel, AMD, Apple and Samsung.
According to customs documents, at least $982 million worth of goods shipped by Mykines are on the list of those prohibited for shipments to Russia under UK export restrictions.
Mykines operated in Russia before the invasion of Ukraine, but its business in the country began only after the outbreak of war.
Most of the 10.6 thousand shipments of goods sent to Russia were received by the Moscow company Marsala. This company may be closely related to Merlion, a major computer and electronics distributor in Russia. One of Marsala’s counterparts is Microcontract, which owns a joint venture with the Engineering Center of Novgorod State University. He conducts research, including in the field of aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The British government assured that “all businesses registered in the UK are required by law to comply with sanctions against Russia.” It also added that the country’s authorities do not discuss the details of “how they apply trade sanctions in specific cases.”
As we reported earlier, law enforcement officials from three countries – the United States, Latvia and Estonia – exposed a scheme for smuggling American-made equipment into Russia.
