Ukraine’s place in the European security architecture should be determined already during its post-war reconstruction. This was announced on Wednesday, April 5, by British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley, Politico reports.
He noted that now is not the time to talk about Ukraine’s application to NATO, because right now the main thing is Kyiv’s self-defense from Russian aggression.
“The UK wants to support Ukraine eventually towards NATO membership, but I think the sequence is very important – and the job now is to help them defend themselves,” he said.
NATO’s commitment, made at the 2008 Bucharest summit, that Ukraine would eventually join the alliance was smartly acknowledged. But he claims that this is a discussion for the next stage.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, April 5, said that Ukraine’s place in NATO and the EU.
Recall Finland officially became the 31st full member of NATO.
