The WHO warned on Wednesday that dengue fever and other diseases caused by mosquito-borne viruses are spreading further and further under the impact of climate change, the WHO warned, fearing a global recovery.

Experts World Health Organization (WHO) warned of an increase in cases dengue and chikungunya, and they believe there will be new Zika epidemics.

These three diseases are caused by arboviruses (viruses transmitted by arthropods) transmitted to humans by Aedes mosquitoes, called tiger mosquitoes.

“He changing of the climate played a key role in the spread of mosquito vectors,” said Raman Velayudhan, who is coordinating the initiative WHO about him dengue and arboviruses.

Together with their colleague Diana Rojas Alvarez, in charge of combating chikungunya and Zika, they called for swift action to stop the spread of mosquitoes, given the risk of recurrences outside of historical transmission areas.

Chikungunya, discovered so far in 115 countries since its discovery in the 1950s, is registering impressive growth in the Americas region, warns Rojas Alvarez. About 135,000 cases have been reported on this continent since January, compared to 50,000 in the first half of 2022.
