Colombia: Prosecutors investigate death threats against President Gustavo Petro

Colombian prosecutors have launched an investigation into the death threats that President Gustavo Petro announced on his Twitter account last Monday, prosecutors said.

The study is led by Specialized Office for Human Rights Violations a prosecutor and a team of investigators and computer experts were appointed to clear up the case.

Petro, who has been threatened several times in the past and has spent most of his life under the protection of official bodyguards, posted the video on Twitter in which a TikTok user can be heard making offensive and threatening comments about them.

In the video, the man calls the Colombian president “garbage” who “doesn’t deserve to be called a man” and states that given the chance, he would get him out of the way and send him to the “lying valley.”

“I hope that the prosecutor (Francisco Barbosa) will investigate the person who threatens me and slanders me. I am waiting for the results of the investigation,” Petro wrote.

Response to a complaint
