The Kremlin still considers it useful to use mercenaries in Ukraine, because their losses are “more acceptable” to Russian society.
Russia seeks to sponsor and build alternative private military companies (PMCs) to eventually replace the group Wagner in Ukraine. It is stated in report Ministry of Defense of Great Britain, published on April 4 on Twitter.
It is noted that this is happening “against the backdrop of strong hostility” between the Russian Ministry of Defense and PMCs Wagner.
“The Russian military leadership likely wants to replace the PMCs in order to gain more control over them. However, no other known Russian private military company currently comes close to the size or combat power of Wagner” the British military believed.
At the same time, the Russian Federation still considers it useful to use PMCs in Ukraine, because they are lower in salary and more effective than the regular army.
“The Russian leadership likely believes that heavy losses in PMCs would be more acceptable to Russian society than ordinary military losses,” the intelligence agency asserted.
Earlier it was reported that against the backdrop of a conflict with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the head of the PMC Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin is preparing to scale back mercenary operations in Ukraine and turn his attention to Africa.
