According to experts, drones are a threat that needs to be taken seriously.
Danish Energy Agency weeks before the gas pipeline exploded Nord Stream And Nord Stream-2 received 16 reports of drone and ship activity at offshore or underwater energy facilities. This was stated in the department’s response to a request from Borsen.
It was noted that 14 of the 16 messages concerned drones, two more – ships. At the same time, for the same period in 2021, the department did not receive a single message about suspicious devices.
In autumn 2022, Danish police confirmed that they had received several reports of drone activity near gas fields in the Baltic Sea. It did not specify who owned the suspicious items.
Cybersecurity and maritime infrastructure expert Tobias Liebetrau said it is not known if the increase in sightings indicates increased activity in the area.
“This does not mean that as soon as you see a drone, it is loaded with explosives or headed for an oil rig, but it is a threat that we have to take seriously. Not least because of Denmark’s involvement in the war in Ukraine,” said he. he said.
Recall that earlier Denmark carried out successful work to lift a mysterious object from the bottom of the Baltic Sea, located near the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.
At the end of September 2022, four leaks occurred in two strings of the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea off the coast of the Danish island of Bornholm. The pipelines were detonated by underwater explosives.
