In Ukraine, from April 1, prescription drugs in pharmacies can be obtained not only by paper, but also by electronic prescription.
Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko announced this on his Facebook page.
I would like to emphasize that electronic prescriptions will be used to sell those medicines that previously belonged to the prescription category. You could see this in their instructions for use, where the column “category of leave” indicated “by prescription,” Lyashko emphasized.
In fact, the only change is that earlier this medicine was dispensed according to a paper prescription, and now an electronic one will be used, which is much more convenient for everyone – the doctor, the patient, and the pharmacist, the minister added.
Lyashko assured that during the transition period, which will be valid at least until the end of martial law, it is possible to use both versions of the recipe.
The patient can choose for himself which prescription it is more convenient for him to purchase medicines in a pharmacy – electronic or paper, – he noted.
The Minister added that an electronic prescription for antibiotics was launched in Ukraine in April 2022.
The press service of the Ministry of Health notes that about 60% of medicines registered in Ukraine are prescription drugs.
The rest of the medicines that do not require a mandatory appointment by a doctor, you can still purchase at a pharmacy without a special prescription, the department adds.
The Ministry of Health notes that this innovation does not expand the list of prescription drugs and does not make all drugs prescription drugs.
That is, all the medicine, which was previously subject to prescription, can be obtained from April using an electronic prescription, the department notes.
The department notes that the list of prescription drugs may include:
- antibiotics;
- anticonvulsants;
- hormonal drugs (including contraceptives);
- drugs for the treatment of blood pressure, heart disease;
- some anthelmintic drugs;
- some antihistamines;
- blood-thinning drugs;
- antidepressants, antipsychotics and relaxants;
- steroid drugs;
- some medicines for pain, cough, sedatives.
To find out if a particular drug is a prescription drug, just check its instructions.
The instructions for all medicines without exception contain comprehensive information about the medical use of the medicine and its category (conditions) of dispensing, the Ministry of Health notes. – You can find the instructions for the desired drug using the services of online pharmacies, or the website of the State Register of Medicines of Ukraine.
