He Pope Francisco spent a second night at the Gemelli hospital in Rome due to bronchitisalthough he is responding to antibiotic treatment and confirmed a “marked improvement” in health, while the Vatican organizes Holy Week rites with the recovering pontiff.
According to sources close to him, the pontiff spent the night “serenely.”

The therapy “produced the expected effects, a marked improvement in his health,” a spokesman for the Vatican said.
For this reason, according to the expected evolution, the Argentine pope “may be discharged in the next few days.”
Francisco, 86, is still allowed onto the tenth floor of the Gemelli, where the Vatican has apartments reserved for the exclusive use of popes since the time of John Paul II.

The spokesman elaborated that the pontiff spent the day “devoting himself to rest, prayer and some work tasks,” suggesting a speedy recovery.
In anticipation of his eventual discharge from the hospital, Vatican he aims to organize the numerous masses and rites of Holy Week in the world center of Catholicism with the Pope, head of the Church, or in the hospital, or still convalescing.
The Holy See has not yet specified plans for the Pontiff’s Holy Week, but Italian media have assured that Francisco will not celebrate masses such as Palm Sunday or Christ’s Resurrection and will be replaced by cardinals.
