A resident of the Tula region, whose daughter Masha drew an anti-war picture at school, was sentenced to two years in prison.
In the city of Efremov, Tula Region, student Maria Moskaleva prepared an anti-war drawing for an art lesson. Here, along with the inscriptions “No to war” and “Glory to Ukraine”, a woman with a Ukrainian flag is depicted, covering a child from rockets. Note that this happened in April 2022.
The next day after school, the girl’s father Alexei Moskalev and his daughter were removed from the school by the police. During the interrogations, law enforcement officers allegedly found an anti-war comment on the father’s social networks, therefore, due to the daughter’s posts and drawings, they made a protocol on “discrediting” the Russian army against him.
“Where do you get dollars?”
After this incident, Masha dropped out of school and switched to home schooling. At the same time, the man and his daughter were again questioned by the FSB.
The family stayed to live in Efremov. The man thought that after this incident no one else would come to them – and decided not to report the case. But on December 30, 2022, law enforcement officers came to Alexey’s house with searches. According to Meduza, Moskalev said that on the morning of the search, five police cars, as well as vehicles from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the fire service, were parked outside his house.
The man said that the security services took things from cupboards, trampled on clothes, tore pictures from the walls and overturned furniture. They took all the equipment, as well as everything the family had saved – 125 thousand rubles and 3150 dollars. During the interrogation, according to Moskalev, the security forces asked him: “Where did you get the dollars? Who is your boss? Who do you work for?”
Moskalev told reporters that law enforcement officers beat him “with his head against the wall and the floor” during the interrogation. After that, she decided to leave with her daughter to the city of Uzlovaya, located about 100 kilometers from Efremov.
The daughter was sent to an orphanage
But the security forces also found them there. On March 1, 2023, Moskalev was imprisoned. A criminal case was opened against him for repeatedly “discrediting” the army due to comments on the Odnoklassniki social network about the murders of residents of Bucha and captured Ukrainians in Yelenovka. What kind of comments led to the case, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation did not specify. Note that Alexey himself insists that he did not write these posts. It is impossible to determine from the page who owns it: there are no personal photos and other data.
Despite this, on March 2, the court placed the man under house arrest, and Masha was taken to a juvenile shelter, where she is still being held. According to the director of this “social rehabilitation center”, Olga Denisova, the girl is feeling good. But the father has no connection with his daughter.
As it became known, in January, the Commission on Juvenile Affairs of the city of Efremov filed a lawsuit to restrict the parental rights of Moskalev and the girl’s mother. According to the head of the commission, Svetlana Davydova, since May 2022, the Moskalev family is in a “preventive register of families in a dangerous situation in society.” He claims that the girl’s father was brought to administrative responsibility twice and did not try to return his daughter to school, and the girl’s mother lived separately and was not interested in her life. A court hearing on the termination of parental rights is scheduled for April 6.
Father’s decision
The Efremov inter-district court of the Tula region considered the criminal case of Moskalev in just one day – March 27. He was sentenced to two years in prison in a penal colony under the article on repeated “discrediting” the Russian army (Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The judge also announced that Moskalev’s daughter had been transferred to the care of social services.
Alexey claimed at the court session that he did not write the comments that led to the criminal case. He said that his Odnoklassniki page was hacked several times.
Also at the trial, the man spoke in a short last word: “If you are now asking for an opinion, how do you feel about the” special operation “in Ukraine, I think even the people in the hall, more than 90% , They will say that they are against. And I agree with them. How can one associate with dying, with people dying? Old people die, children. The negative attitude is just, how else can it be associated with war. But to slide down to write negative things, insults … I didn’t do that.”
Moskalev was sentenced on March 28, but he himself was not at the reading. Court spokeswoman Olga Dyachuk said she escaped from house arrest the night before the verdict.
It should be noted that on the day of the verdict, Moskalev’s lawyer Vladimir Bilienko spoke with the staff of the shelter where Masha was staying. She gave him drawings of the girl, and also showed her letter to her father. “There’s a big heart at the end and (words – ed.): “Dad, you’re my hero,” the lawyer said.
The Kremlin’s reaction
The situation with Maria Moskalenko commented Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. According to him, the situation is connected with the violation of parental duties. He did not comment on the verdict on the girl’s father, but noted that the Kremlin is interested in the situation, but he does not consider himself entitled to comment on the court’s decision.
“There, in the story with the child, the matter is completely different: there is really a very sad state with the fulfillment of parental duties and with the provision of living conditions for the child,” said Peskov.
