President Volodymyr Zelensky is on a working trip to the Sumy region. He arrived in the city of Akhtyrka, where he took part in the events on the occasion of the anniversary of his heroic defense against the Russian invaders, the press service of the head of state on Tuesday, March 28.
“In the Sumy region, in our Akhtyrka, we honor the true Cossack courage and inflexibility of our people, our heroes, all Ukrainians and Ukrainian women. Those who fought here for their city, for on their land and thus for our entire state. that destroyed the Russian columns here and thus destroyed the entire hostile plan against Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” the president said in his speech.
The participants observed a minute of silence in memory of all those who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine. Military and civilian personnel who died during the defense of Akhtyrka are mentioned by name.
“It is a great honor for me to present Akhtyrka today with the honor of a city hero, a city defender, a city winner,” Zelensky said.
The mayor of the city Pavel Kuzmenko, the chairman of the VGA and the commandant of the city received the award from the hands of the president.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also took part in the ceremony of presenting state awards to participants in the defense of Akhtyrka. Orders For Courage of the III degree and medals for military service in Ukraine from the head of state were received by military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as employees of the SBU, National Guard, National Police and State.
