In recent days, Russia continues to prioritize the operation to encircle Avdiivka. However, Russian forces have made only marginal progress at the cost of heavy losses in armored vehicles. In particular, the 10th Tank Regiment of the Russian 3rd Army Corps probably lost most of its tanks while trying to encircle Avdiivka from the south.
The losses of the 10th Panzer Regiment are most likely due to tactically feigned frontal attacks, similar to other recent failed Russian armored attacks around Ugledar.
Recall that the 3rd Army Corps is the first major new formation created by Russia to support the invasion of Ukraine since August 2022. The corps especially suffers from problems with indiscipline and low morale. Despite a likely period of training in Belarus, the formation still demonstrates limited combat capability.
