Moscow announced “extremely negative consequences” for Yerevan due to the “extremely unacceptable” decision to ratify the Rome Statute.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called Armenia’s decision to ratify the International Criminal Court’s Rome Statute “extremely unacceptable,” which could lead to the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the country. This was announced on Monday, March 27, by RosSMI, citing sources in the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It was noted that Russian diplomats have already warned Armenia about “extremely negative consequences” in the event of such a move.
The Armenian authorities have announced that they have started the process of ratifying the Rome Statute by the end of 2022 with the aim of “bringing the Azerbaijani authorities to account” in the future.
Remember, on March 24, the Constitutional Court of Armenia published a decision according to which the Rome Statute corresponds to the Constitution of the country. The decision is final and effective from the moment of its publication. Thus, Armenia has added to the number of countries where Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is likely to be arrested if he visits.
As reported, on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of illegally deporting thousands of children from Ukraine.
