Journalists from the British Guardian newspaper report that they were able to identify eight Russian soldiers who, in a video published on the Internet, complain about numerous violations during military operations in Ukraine.
Among other things, they talk about the use of blanks against them and claim that some officers of the fake Donetsk People’s Republic demanded money from the soldiers so that they would not be sent to the front.
In the video, which the Guardian writes about, 20 people appeared in front of the camera. They say they serve in the Storm detachment of the Russian Defense Ministry. According to the military, its staff strength was 161 people, while the detachment lost 22 people dead, including the commander, 34 people were injured.
The Russian soldier, identified by the Guardian as Alexander Gorin, said that the detachment decided to go to headquarters, but a barrage detachment was put up against him and the military could not leave their positions.
They managed to evacuate much later. The Guardian was able to identify eight soldiers from this video. Three of them agreed to speak and confirmed that they fought in the Storm squad.
The servicemen call their commanders a “criminal organization” and accuse them of demanding money from them and sending those who refused to the front line.
The Russian authorities have never confirmed the practice of using barrage detachments. President Vladimir Putin acknowledged desertion cases in December, but said they were becoming “fewer and fewer.”
At the same time, Russian propaganda actively accuses the Ukrainian army of using barrage detachments.
