Only three countries voted in favor, including Russia itself. Meanwhile, in the next few days, a UN Security Council meeting will be held on Putin’s statement on the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.
The UN Security Council did not support Russia’s resolution to investigate the Nord Stream explosions, Reuters reported on Monday night, March 27. Meanwhile, the UN reported that it plans to hold a Security Council meeting this week because of the threats by Russian President Vladimir Putin to install tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
Thus, only Russia, China and Brazil voted in favor of the Russian resolution on the investigation of explosions in the Nord Stream, none voted against, and the remaining 12 members of the Council abstained. At the same time, a resolution requires at least nine votes and no vetoes from Russia, China, France, the US or the UK.
Also, the representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric during the briefing said that the Council will meet this week because of Putin’s threats about nuclear weapons in Belarus.
“As far as I know, the meeting should take place this week,” said Dujarric, answering reporters’ questions.
Remember, on March 25, Putin said that Moscow agreed with Minsk on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. He argues that this “will not violate the obligations under START.”
Later, Ukraine demanded that the UN Security Council be convened because of Putin’s statement. The Foreign Ministry said that this is another provocative step by the criminal Putin regime, which undermines the foundations of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the architecture of nuclear disarmament and the international security system as a whole.
