Brazil: Sinister Plan to Assassinate Sergio Moro, Former Judge in Lava Jato Case, Revealed

Secret codes, a lot of money invested and a possible date, election day. It was the plan of the First Capital Command (PCC) to kidnap and kill former judge and today, Brazilian Senator Sergio Moro, whose details became known this Thursday.

Judge Gabriela Hardt, who is leading the case, has declassified an operation launched on Thursday to arrest eleven suspects, including leaders of the CCP, the country’s biggest criminal group, for plotting a simultaneous assassination from last year by various authorities.

Moro, who gained worldwide notoriety for the conviction and imprisonment of current Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and later became Minister of Justice in Jair Bolsonaro’s government, was at the top of the list of targets.

Changes to watch “Tokyo”

The investigation points to careful follow-up work on him and his family. They even used secret codes to avoid triggering alerts between police intelligence units, according to an exchange of messages between one of the defendants and his sentimental partner.

Because they planned to kidnap Moor and his family, and one of the proposed dates was October 30, the day of the second round of the presidential election in which progressive leader Lula defeated the far-right Bolsonaro.

They even went as far as reconnaissance of the place where Moor He brought his voice to the city of Curitiba, where he made a career as a magistrate and handled the anti-corruption operation Lava Jato until he became a senator.

The crew also rented properties near locations Moor and his family frequented Curitiba, in the south of the country, with the intention of learning his routine inside out. They even had an interchangeable system so they didn’t miss a single move.

Everything was written down in a spiral notebook confiscated during Thursday’s operation. They used blue, black, and red pens to highlight each piece of information, such as the full names of their family members, phone numbers, property declarations with appropriate meanings, and common addresses.

Sergio Moro as a bargaining chip

One of the hypotheses put forward is that the purpose was the kidnapping Moor and his family to use as a bargaining chip for the release of PCC top leader Marcos Camacho, better known as “Marcola”, currently imprisoned in a maximum security federal prison in Brasilia.

In doing so, they also sought to weaken the anti-crime policies that Moreau promoted during his tenure as Attorney General, such as the ban on intimate dating in federal prisons.

Judge Hardt was also struck by the “massive financial and human resources” devoted to bringing Moro to an end.

A “large financial investment” valued at “half a million reais” (nearly $100,000), the judge said, struck by the description of the expenses incurred by the criminals as a kind of accountability to superiors.

The names behind the plan

Janeferson Aparecido Mariano, aka “Nefo”, “NF” or “Dodge”, is believed to have been in charge of the mission and primary objective of Operation Sequoise.

According to investigators, he is considered one of the leaders of the PKK unit, which is engaged in the “murder” of former members of the faction, branded as traitors, and “committing criminal acts against the authorities and representatives of power.”

The PCC originated in the 1990s in São Paulo prisons and is today the most powerful drug trafficking crime ring in South America, with tentacles in several countries in the region.

In this context, investigators point to “Nefo” as “responsible for organizing, funding, planning and executing the kidnapping” of the former judge.

One of his closest henchmen is Claudine Gomes Carias, aka “Ney”, apparently in charge of “concrete activities” to carry out the plan, such as snooping or reporting on the senator’s daily routine.

Judge Hardt’s 71-page ruling also includes other names, such as the name of a woman, “Cynthia,” who was apparently in charge of renting a farm near Curitiba that was supposedly meant to serve as bondage. (EFE)
