PMC head Wagner flatly rejected the Kremlin’s claims that the Russian Federation needs to defend itself against the NATO threat to Ukraine.
Russia is not at war with NATO, and there are no Nazis on the territory of Ukraine. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes about this on Thursday, March 12, citing Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner PMC.
He noted that Russia is fighting “exclusively with Ukrainians” equipped with equipment provided by NATO, and some “Russophobic” mercenaries who voluntarily support Ukraine, but not NATO itself.
Prigozhin admitted that Russian officials probably knew that NATO would offer military assistance to Ukraine, because “it is ridiculous to think that when the Russian Federation decides to start a war, it does not consider the help of NATO in Ukraine.”
He also said that he was not sure of the goal of the “denazification” of Ukraine, as he did not know if there were “Nazis” in Ukraine.
As experts explained, “through his statements, Prigozhin “virtually rejected the Kremlin’s statements before the war and after the war that the Russian Federation needed to defend itself against the NATO threat to Ukraine, and undermined the necessity and possibility of the maximalist goals of his aggression declared by the Russian dictator Putin.”
Earlier this week it became known that Prigozhin had sought help from Shoigu near Bakhmut. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine intend to launch a mass offensive and deliver a flank dissecting strike to cut off the Wagner PMC units from the main forces of the RF Armed Forces.
It was also reported that PMC Wagner wanted to recruit 30,000 militants by May.
