Battalion Commander Kupol (Anatoly Kozel) commented on a conversation with The Washington Post, after which he was demoted.
He explains that he “spoke sincerely, for as long as he could,” but asks not to look for betrayal where there is none.
He told and forgot – there are more important things at the front. But when the noise arose, I revised the final result – and I myself was amazed how everything was somehow wrong, – Dome wrote on his Facebook page.
Kozel states that WP published only part of his words. He says that his criticism is the desire not to trample the Ukrainian army into the mud, but on the contrary, to change it for the better. Also, according to him, now there is a constructive dialogue with the leadership of the children’s school.
In addition, the officer says that he talked with WP journalists for a long time, but in the finished article he saw “only part of what he said and not at all what he wanted to convey.”
According to Kupol, he did not want to “trample the Ukrainian army into the dirt”, but to make it better. In addition, he spoke with journalists during very heavy fighting.
Yes, I was overwhelmed with emotions and I could not restrain myself. Because once again I repeat to all the haters – I am not an actor and not a politician, I do not know how to play in public and in front of cameras. I say what I think. Again, this is my personal and subjective opinion. My vision. And not the official position of the military leadership of the DShU, – he stressed.
Recall that earlier Kozel gave a comment to WP, where he complained about the quality of training of recruits and heavy losses among experienced fighters. Soon the commander of the Airborne Assault Force removed the battalion commander from his post and transferred him to a lower one. This decision caused outrage among the public, many military personnel and journalists.
