The International Criminal Court said Russia does not deny the ICC indictments, but “wears them as a badge of honor.”
International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan says Russia is using Ukrainian children as war trophies, CNN reports.
“You have to take care of them. If they are not safe, move them to a safe part of Ukraine. If this is not possible, then to a neutral country. And it seems that this is not just a deportation to the Russian Federation, where they are met by strangers who now suddenly become foster parents. And the children are not property, not military booty,” Khan said.
He emphasized that Russia does not deny the ICC accusations, but “wears them as a badge of honor.” Russian authorities have also not responded to prosecutors’ attempts to negotiate.
“Children are not the property of the country, which can be moved for political or ideological reasons. This should be regulated by law,” Khan said, adding that the law should be respected.
On March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an international arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is suspected of illegally deporting Ukrainian children.
It has also been reported that Ukraine is demanding lists of all abducted children from the Russian Federation.
