“Brocken ghost” – a shadow from a person in the cloud. Sometimes it can be very large and moving even when the observer is standing still.
In the Carpathians, they noticed a rare and unusual natural phenomenon called “Brocken Ghost”, when a person sees his shadow in the clouds. The corresponding photo was published by the head of the Montenegrin rescue post, Vasily Fitsak, on Facebook.
“Brocken ghost” is an atmospheric optical phenomenon when an observer sees his own shadow from the sun in the clouds. In this case, the shadow can be very large and even surrounded by a multi-colored ring – the so-called gloria.
Sometimes the “ghost” can move even when the observer is standing still. This is due to the movement of clouds and fluctuations in their density.
The phenomenon gets its name from the Brocken peak in the Harz mountains in Germany, where this phenomenon is often observed due to local conditions.
