According to a court decision, a local resident of Russian origin is required to transfer 1,500 euros to an organization that helps Ukrainians affected by the war.

In the German city of Wiesbaden, the court fined 1,500 euros for a man who wore a T-shirt with the symbol of Russian aggression – the letter Z. In addition, the fine must be paid to an organization that provides help to the Ukrainians, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports.

It was learned that the 49-year-old resident of Wiesbaden originally from Russia, who works as an electrician, has lived in Germany since 1992 and has German citizenship. At the trial, he said that he received information about the world and current events mainly from the Russian media – therefore, he believed that “Nazis” came to power in Ukraine.

A T-shirt with the letter Z was brought to the man by a “Russian friend”. He wore it to work in defiance of the Ukrainian flag his boss had defiantly raised on the company building after the outbreak of full-scale war.

At the trial, the man said he did not realize he had committed a crime, revealing a symbol of Russian aggression. After a close friend’s son died in the war, he began watching more German media news.

By a court decision, the man was ordered to make five payments of 300 euros each to close the proceedings. In this case, the funds will go to the alliance of organizations Deutschland hilft, which, among other things, collects donations for victims of the war in Ukraine.

It was previously reported that the German police will crack down on the use of the Z symbol.
