The Pentagon, in order to speed up delivery, may transfer to Ukraine older models of Abrams tanks – M1A1.
To speed up the delivery, the United States will transfer older models of Abrams tanks to Ukraine. On Tuesday, March 21, the Associated Press wrote.
It was noted that the Pentagon is increasing the supply of Abrams tanks to Ukraine, preferring to send older models, newly refurbished, which can be ready faster.
The United States intends to deliver military vehicles to Ukraine within 8-10 months.
Initially, the transfer of 31 tanks of a newer version, the M1A2, to the Armed Forces of Ukraine was discussed. However, now the Pentagon wants to supply Ukraine with older M1A1s that can be taken from army stocks. In addition, it will be easier for the Ukrainian military to learn how to use and maintain them.
How many M1A1 Abrams tanks the United States wants to give Kyiv was not reported.
Remember, on January 25, US President Joe Biden officially announced that Washington will transfer Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
American media reported that Abrams tanks will be delivered to Ukraine only at the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024.
