More than 50,000 people are believed to have died in the February 6 earthquake in Turkey. This was announced on Monday, March 20 by the Anadolu agency, citing the head of the Turkish Emergency Department (AFAD), Yunus Sezer.
“The death toll from the earthquakes with the epicenter in Kahramanmaras reached 50,096. 107,204 people were injured,” he said at a briefing in Ankara.
According to the agency, more than 298 people were arrested, suspected of violations of building regulations. Under arrest are 104 contractors, 161 foremen, 15 building owners and 18 people who made changes to the original design of the houses.
Remember, on February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude greater than seven points occurred in Turkey.
The tremors, followed by thousands of aftershocks, were felt in 11 provinces of the republic and neighboring countries, with Syria suffering the most.
In addition, widespread flooding occurred in the provinces affected by the calamity.
