In the Chernihiv region at the 169th Desna training center named after Prince Yaroslav the Wise, a tragedy occurred. As a result of the emergency, four Ukrainian soldiers were killed. The incident took place on Saturday 18th March.
In the center itself, the details of the tragedy were not reported, but they emphasized that the bodies of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are conducting an internal investigation.
“On behalf of the command and personnel, we express our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of our fallen brothers,” they said on March 19.
It should be noted that the Desna training center is a military unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which specializes in training personnel for various branches of the Land Forces of Ukraine. Reports directly to Ground Forces command.
Cause of death of soldiers
State Bureau of Investigation investigators established that routine firing took place on the territory of the training center on Saturday. During the exercise, a shell exploded, killing four soldiers.
The bodies of the servicemen were sent to the Chernihiv Regional Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination for appropriate research.
It was mentioned that employees of the State Bureau of Investigation went to the scene of the tragedy, they conducted an inspection and took material evidence. Criminal proceedings are launched on the fact of violation of the rules for handling weapons.
At the very center of Desna, they refused to comment to reporters and said they would not provide further information.
Rocket attack on Desna

“Early in the morning, the enemy launched rocket attacks on the village of Desna. Rescuers and law enforcement agencies are working there. Before, we had dead and many wounded,” said Vyacheslav Chaus , then head of Chernihiv OVA.
Later, President Volodymyr Zelensky said 87 people were killed in the shelling of the Desna training center.
“Now we are done with the work in Desna. Unfortunately, 87 victims found under the rubble there. 87 killed,” he said on May 23.
Another tragedy in Lviv
It should be noted that on March 19, a tragedy also occurred at the Lviv University of Internal Affairs. There, during the dress, a second-year cadet shot himself. The educational institution reported that an official investigation is underway in connection with the death of a student.
