Due to limited stocks of gunpowder, plastic explosives and TNT, the European military industry will not be able to quickly fulfill EU orders for Ukraine.
In Europe, there is a shortage of explosives to increase the production of ammunition for Ukraine. This was reported by the Financial Times.
Limited stocks of gunpowder, plastic explosives and TNT have prevented Europe’s military industry from quickly fulfilling EU mandates for Ukraine, no matter how much European governments are willing to spend, officials and arms company.
“It is very difficult to increase the production of artillery ammunition, especially heavy, large-caliber ones, in a short period of time,” said Jiří Hynek, chairman of the Association of Defense and Security Industry of the Czech Republic.
Defense industry officials say there are limited stocks of explosives in Europe.
“It is impossible to increase (production of) nitrocellulose in a short time … In Europe there are no large producers of the raw materials we need. If I want to increase the production of gunpowder, I need maybe three years,” Hynek said, which refers to the main ingredient in gunpowder.
Blacksmiths say that today it is only possible to increase the production of explosives if significant quantities of raw materials are imported from other regions – India, Korea and other countries.
As previously reported, by the end of 2022, Ukraine will become the third largest arms importer in the world thanks to military aid from Western countries after the Russian invasion.
