Germany will execute a warrant for Vladimir Putin’s arrest if he arrives, Germany’s Justice Minister said.
German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said he will execute an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin if he goes to German soil. This was reported by Zeit.
According to him, if Putin comes, the International Criminal Court will quickly turn to Interpol and the contracting states and request that the warrant be executed.
“Then Germany is obliged to arrest President Putin if he enters German territory and hand him over to the ICC,” the minister said.
Unlike national law enforcement agencies, the ICC can also take action against heads of state, Buschmann added.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden called the ICC’s decision to issue a warrant for Putin’s arrest a strong step.
It will be recalled that on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Alekseevna Lvovo-Belova. They are suspected of involvement in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
