Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, has put into effect a decision of the National Security and Defense Council, according to which sanctions are imposed against 300 individuals and 141 legal entities.
In this list, in particular, Syrian President Bashar Hafez al-Assad and several Syrian officials – Prime Minister Hussein Arnus and Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mikdad. The corresponding decree was published today, March 18, on the website of the President’s Office.
This Decree takes effect on the day of publication.
It should be noted that in the annex to the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, which determines the list of individuals against whom sanctions are imposed, Assad’s birthday is November 11, 1965, while the Syrian president was born on September 11 of the same year.
Sanctions are imposed for a period of five to 30 years, in particular, against Assad – for 10 years. They provide, in particular, for the blocking of assets, the restriction of trade operations, the suspension of the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations.
The majority of legal entities on this list are citizens of Russia.
Of the legal entities, Russian research and production and shipbuilding enterprises, as well as companies in the aviation industry, in particular, fell under the sanctions. Sanctions have also been imposed on several Iranian companies.
