They want to change the draft age for military service in Russia.
So, on March 13, a bill was submitted to the State Duma of Russia to change the age for conscription for military service of men to 21-30 years from the current 18-27 years. The law is likely to be adopted and enter into force in January 2024. This was announced by the UK Department of Defense on Twitter.
It is noted that now officially the Russian dictatorship “forbids” conscripts to fight in Ukraine. However, British intelligence believes that at least hundreds of people served through administrative confusion or after they were forced to sign contracts.
In addition, many men aged 18-21 apply for exemption from conscription, as they receive higher education. Moscow will most likely decide to change the draft age to increase the number of military personnel, ensuring that students will eventually be forced to serve.
Even if Russia continues to refrain from using conscripts in the war, additional conscripts will fire a large proportion of professional soldiers to participate in hostilities, British intelligence said.
Recall that British intelligence recently informed that the offensive potential of the Russian army in the Donbas has temporarily dried up, because along the entire front line the invaders demonstrate one of the lowest rates of local offensive actions that have been observed since at least January 2023.
