The head of government has given the task of creating a working group to update the customs reform strategy.
The government will change the customs reform strategy. This will include its further integration with the EU customs control system, joint border control with Western countries, joint construction of border infrastructure, digitalization and the fight against corruption. This was announced on Friday, March 17, by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a meeting on customs reform, reports the Communications Department of the Cabinet of Ministers Secretariat.
At the same time, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers emphasized that Ukraine is already implementing the possibility of a customs visa-free regime with the EU in the joint transit regime (NCTS), and also received high marks from the European Commission for fulfilling its requirements in the area of customs.
“Further customs reform provides for a number of practical measures. This is the installation of scanners. This is the joint control of Ukrainian customs officials and customs officials of EU countries. For here, it is necessary to harmonize our law with the European one. . One of the priority areas of reform is the digitalization of customs,” said the Prime Minister.
According to the head of the government, Ukraine will simplify data exchange with Western customs, focus on electronic customs clearance, and also undertake modernization of border infrastructure.
Shmygal believes that industrial reform will make further corruption and abuse of Ukrainian customs impossible.
It will be recalled that the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption found four million hryvnias ($150,000), allegedly received as a gift from a retired father, from the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service, Ruslan Cherkassky.
