Scandal in Italian politics. A senior official appointed by Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has resigned after it was revealed he sent a work email referring to Benito Mussolini.
Claudio Anastasio last November took over 3-I, the public company responsible for managing the state’s computer services.
An email sent to 3-I’s board of directors resulted in his resignation, it said. la republic.
Corporate mail with a fascist bias
“But then, gentlemen, what kind of butterflies are we going to look for under the arch of Titus?” Well, I declare here, before you and before the entire Italian government, that I take upon myself (on my own!) responsibility 3rd (political! moral! historical!) for everything that happened. If more or less mutilated phrases are enough to hang a man, then on a stick and on a rope! If the 3rd was my fault, I am responsible for it because I have fueled this historical, political and moral climate in my role,” the email reads.
One of the recipients was struck by the tone of the letter, so he decided to perform a reverse search on Google. There he discovered that Claudio Anastasio had copied a famous speech by a Fascist Benito Mussolini January 3, 1925.
After the diary la republic published an email, Anastasio irrevocably resigned.
